War of Attrition

The war

Three Factions, the Crimson Crown, the Iron Republic and the Verdant Compact, hold a freshly drawn map of Provinces, with the city-states caught between them.

A campaign is one run, played a month at a time across the Seasons. You write your Orders as your rivals write theirs: reinforce a front, move a Commander, order an attack. Every battle is fought on a hex board with a battalion of sixteen cards.

It began as a board game on a real table, and keeps that table's discipline: a small board, a small deck, and rules two people could agree on to finish a game.

Officers in grey greatcoats lean over a campaign map spread on a wooden table.

What's in it

What in this game was made with AI, as its Steam AI disclosure states it. How and why: the AI policy.

Art
The paintings, card art, watercolours and margin sketches are generated with DIG, my own image pipeline, on open-weight models: Juggernaut XL v9 by KandooAI and RunDiffusion; DreamShaper XL by Lykon for the watercolours; Sinful Strokes by mnemic, with coileralt's Napoleonic uniform LoRAs, for the cards. The margin sketches take their hand from Thomas Rowlandson's public-domain pen-and-wash.
Code
Written with Claude, by Anthropic, and directed, reviewed and played by me.
Rules
Designed by hand, from the board game it started as.
